"The Flipped Classroom" is a new trend in teaching that focuses on student centered learning. In a flipped classroom environment, the instructional material is delivered at home, and the practice activities are done in the classroom. The instructional content is usually delivered online, in the form of an interactive powerpoint lesson or video. This method of teaching allows students to learn and become familiar with the material before coming into the classroom. Then, the teacher can assist the students while they practice the material in the class, and be readily available to help when needed. I think this is a very useful strategy for a teacher to employ because it promotes double the learning! The students are first exposed to the material at home, and then again in the classroom with the help and guidance of the teacher.

Open Educational Resources, or OER, are online instructional materials that are open to the public and can be used and shared with others for free. OERs have become commonly used by teachers around the world because they offer an endless supply of online instructional material that can help enhance a lesson. OERs can include anything from single video lesson plans, to an entire online curriculum that can be easily accessed, modified, and shared by everyone. The only downside of OER's is the possibility of inaccurate or inappropriate information because of its universal access. However, teachers generally review the material before showing it to the class to avoid these potential issues. Open educational resources are a great tool for teachers to incorporate into their classroom because it makes lesson plans more interactive and fun for kids to learn! The article I attached below emphasizes the benefits of teachers using OERs in the classroom and how it promotes student learning.

Over the past few weeks, I learned how to utilize many new features of PowerPoint that I had never been exposed to before. In the first assignment, "PowerPoint for Information Dissemination" I learned how to apply the "slide master" to my slideshow. This is a great tool because it allows you to create your own slide layout and apply different features such as a background image to the entire slideshow. In the second assignment, "Powerpoint Interaction" I learned how to create my own calculator using shapes and enabling macros. I found this feature to be very cool because I was able to create my own shapes and then enable interactions so the shapes perform different tasks such as "plus one". I would definitely like to continue practicing how to enable macros so that my skills can improve and I can create more interactive PowerPoints in the future!
