Blog Journal 5

Diigo is an online database designed to help people collect, organize, and share information online! During my first experience using Diigo, I found a scholarly article by National Geographic and was able to share it with the entire class through my Diigo page. I also set up a Google Chrome extension which allows me to bookmark a website page and store it in my online Diigo library, for easy access later on. I also found the Google Chrome extension to be very useful when reviewing articles or websites. The extension allows you to highlight directly on a webpage, and even add a “sticky note” with annotations anywhere on the text. I think Diigo will prove to be very useful in my future career as an educator as a reliable source to gather and share information.

Over the past few weeks I have been using the website “Blogger” to share and review posts between my classmates in EME2040. I have found this tool to be very useful in my studies because it allows me to share the information I’ve found not only with the teacher, but with the rest of the class as well. I like how Blogger allows you to give and receive feedback on posts, which is very helpful for personal improvement. I hope to utilize Blogger as a vital resource in my future career in the education field. It will give me the ability to hear personal experiences and recommendations from teachers across the web, as well as a place to share my own stories!

Web 2.0 refers to a new technology wave that encourages people to not only use, but actually participate in the web-based content themselves. One Web 2.0 tool that I feel will be very useful in a classroom is Quizlet. This website allows anyone to plug in all the information they need to study for an exam, and then it will generate study tools to help you practice! These study tools are very useful and include things such as flashcards, practice quizzes, and matching games. Another cool feature of Quizlet is that it allows you to make your study sets public and other students can use them for future exams! I’ve used quizlet for numerous classes throughout high school and college, and would definitely recommend it as a useful tool for educators.

  1. Yes, Web 2.0 encourages people participating, but it focuses on user-generated content. Therefore, the social component of it is essential. Quizlet content is generated by the user but I will argue that it is not entirely Web 2.0 because it is hard to form a social network on it.
